And0r is a modern electronic artist only recently signed to the Exquisite Noise roster. Mastermind Ben Hajiof has been making music on Macbook with Ableton live for 9 years now. As far as influences, he lists Prodigy, Ed Rush and Optical, Matrix and Grooverider as being some of his key heroes and sources of inspiration. As far as what led him to pursue music in the first place, he offered this take:
I’d like to say rip to DJ Randall and his radio show got me into many inspiring artists back when i was a teenager in 1995. Ido not only like rave and drum and bass however I have eclectic taste, I love the sound of Autechre and Aphex Twin, and Plaid, I love the acid sound, I make a rave sound, but am inspired by the idea of making trance, or maybe garage one day, but drum and bass rave sound is what i do now – bpm range 175bpm to 140 bpm, 180 and 130 bpm are possible, there are no rules. Ihave made music in the past before my Macbook, I used an ipad, iphone and back in the day an old pc. I’ve had a lot of practice making music…I have a taste even for rock music, anything well produced, ranging from Thom Yorke too QOTSA, Bloc party or even Marilyn Manson or Jinger. I have hardware synths that I may use but am in love with my VSTs, I do not use presets on serum, make all sound from scratch on there. I’m a gamer, and I socialise with friends, my favourite colour is either turquoise or pink…”
As far as his sound goes, it’s a highly original take on the techno genre, with many unexpected shifts, stylistic departures, and unique instrumentation. But don’t just take our word for it, listen for yourself to our And0r Youtube playlist. As an added bonus, his song titles are often quite fantastic as well:
